During November, 2014, we attended the Old Lahaina Luau for the first time. As a family of 6, plus an infant, we were excited based on the reviews shared. I searched online and found, what I thought was the website for the Old Lahaina Luau. The day of the Luau, my husband, became very ill and was not able attend (the next day was urgent care). My son was also ill due to motion sickness. As a result, I contacted the company and explained that two of our party would not be able to make it. At our table there were a total of 7 people plus the infant - 2 more people at the table would have been very tight! Plus, it is very hard to see from some of the table locations.

Maui Fun Guide is an official booking agent for the Old Lahaina Luau. The client acknowledged the company’s 48-hour cancellation policy, yet sent an email (10-minutes) before the Luau check-in time stating… “two people in our party are violently ill.” Although it was not their task to do so, every effort was made by the Old Lahaina Luau to resell the seats at the last minute without success.
So - for our first trip to the Old Lahaina Luau and unfortunately, we will not be back. The entire process is frustrating and I believe a scam. The ticket vendor I have since found out is:
I'm a travel agent and I use Hawaii Fun Planner for all of my client's adventures, luaus, and tours. Bill is the best. Super knowledgeable and reliable. He only uses the best vendors on the islands! My clients have come back raving about their tours. It saves a ton of time to have all of your activities confirmed before you go over. Who wants to spend hours at an activity desk or with a concierge. A nice perk is that almost all tours are charged the day of the activity, not before. I won't use anyone else in Hawaii.
The next morning I contacted the ticket vendor and explained the situation. He then told me that he had contacted the venue and they said they would not authorized the refund. I explained again what they told me and he again said that the Old Lahaina Luau would not give a refund.
At the Luau, I explained the same and was told that a manager would be coming to our table to talk to us. Of course, that evening NO ONE other than the wait staff came to talk to us. On our way out, I spoke with the receptionist at the main counter whom I had spoken to earlier and explained that we had not yet spoken to the manager. And she said she would locate him/her. I waited and eventually, she came back and said the manager had left, however, had said we could have a refund of the two tickets, however, since I did not purchase the tickets directly from the venue, I would need to contact the ticket vendor. Surprise to me! I thought and was given the impression that I had purchased the tickets through the venue! The manager from the Old Lahaina Luau said they would happily refund the tickets.
Buyer beware!!!!! Moral of the story - buy from the venue -- verify that you are purchasing from the vendor! Boy do I feel "dumb"!
